Upgrading from CRF100 to either KX100 or KX85 2-stroke?

Cian: hi im just wondering i ride a honda crf 100 and i want to upgrade to either a kawasaki kx 100 2-stroke or a 85 2-stroke just wondering which one would suit me better. I’m about 5 foot 1 or 2 and i weigh about just under seven stone.

Adam: I would recommend that you go with the KX100 because it is very similar to the 85 but just an inch or two taller. You will enjoy the extra power that you will get from the 100. When you turn 15 or 16 you will want to upgrade again to a 125 2-Stroke or a 250 4-Stroke. You are still a little young and light to be riding a 125 or 250-4 stroke so the KX100 sounds like a good option for you for the next few years.

Motocross bike preparation.

Ready to do a moto? Be sure to perform all of these pre-race preparation steps to ensure a good, safe ride or race.

1. Air Pressure – Make sure that you run the correct amount of air pressure in your tires. This can make a huge difference on how your bike handles on the track or trail. Although there is not a correct number , ask some of your buddies what they run for each individual track. Personally on my KX450F I run 12 in the rear tire and 9-10 for the front tire on intermediate dirt.

2. Bolts – Grab an 8, 10, 12, and possibly 14mm T-Handles and start checking all of the bolts that may have rattled loose during a previous ride.

3. Tires – Ensure that your knobby’s are not worn to a point where they will hinder the way you are riding. Also inspect for old rotten rubber.

4. Sprocket – Make sure you have all of your sprocket teeth and if either of the sprockets are worn too much. Replace the whole chain wheel set. Rear, front and chain at once. CAUTION: MAKE SURE YOUR SPROCKET BOLTS ARE TIGHT EVEN IF YOU HAVEN’T JUST REPLACED THEM!!!!!!!!!!

5. Check your handlebar clamps. They should be as tight as possible to avoid then from rotating up or down.

Rainy day – Riding Tips

-Make sure you have a few changes of gear.
-Grab your pressure washer and a few spare levers for your bike.
Put porous foam , ie.. Factory Foam in all spots that look suitable to ensure that the mud does not reach critical engine parts.
- If possible change your tires to a compound that works well in mud.
- When riding stay on the gas, going faster and not focusing on the ruts will make you a much faster and stable mud racer.

Squirrely- Hey dude you got super squirrely in that whoops section.
Rythem Section – (Defined: a group of obsticles that allow the rider to either double then tripple or tripple then double or even tripple tripple. These are usually found on Supercross tracks.

Hot weather riding tips

Summer is almost here we need to find ways to stay cool while riding.

1. Breathe: This seems simple but most of don’t think about breathing enough while riding. We need to supply our bodies with oxygen to keep our body temperatures down.

2. Hydrate: Staying hydrated is essential to having a good day riding your dirtbike. Drink at least 8 glasses of water per day during the week.

3. Vented riding gear: Most of the major MX gear companies have a line of vented pants, jerseys and almost everything else for motocross.

Will Yamaha YZ 450F forks work on my 2003 YZ125?

Hey adam i have a 2003 yamaha yz 125 and i was wondering if the the suspensions are interchangeable with a yz450f with a few mods? thanks

Good question indeed. I have been having quite a few questions in this realm lately. As long as the forks are the same diameter, I don’t see a reason why they would not work. Have you called a local Yamaha dealer and inquired with them? They should be interchangeable as long as the diameter of the forks is the same. If not I think you would have to ensure that your tipple clamps can support the new diameter.
